Who we are
This Privacy Policy explains how US Home Assistance (“US Home Assistance,” “we,” “us” or “our”) collects, uses, shares and protects information when you visit ushomeasistance.com (the “Site”), sign up for listing alerts, receive our emails or text messages, or contact us. US Home Assistance is an independent listings and information resource. Our mailing address is 5349 North Park Place NE, Unit #2179, Cedar Rapids, IA 52402.
By using the Site, you agree to the practices described in this policy. If you don’t agree, please don’t use the Site or submit your information.
Information we collect
Information you give us. When you sign up for listing alerts, we collect your email address and, if you choose to provide them, your first name, mobile phone number, ZIP code or city, and the listing types you’re interested in (foreclosures, rent-to-own, private listings). If you use our preference panel, we also collect the state, number of bedrooms, budget range and move-in timeline you select. When you tick a text message consent box, we record which box you ticked, the date and time, and the page where you gave consent.
When you use our contact form, we collect your name, email address, the topic you choose and your message.
Information collected automatically. Like most websites, our servers and service providers automatically receive certain technical information when you visit, such as your IP address, browser type, device type, operating system, the pages you view, the page that referred you, and the date and time of your visit. We may use cookies and similar technologies, described in the cookies section below.
Information from our messages. Our emails may contain small images or tracked links that tell us whether a message was opened or a link was clicked. We use this to understand which alerts are useful and to keep our mailing list healthy.
We do not ask for, and you should not send us, Social Security numbers, bank or card details, or other sensitive financial information.
How we use your information
We use the information we collect to:
- send the listing alerts, home-buying guides and related emails you signed up for, which may include offers and promotions;
- send text messages, but only if you gave consent by ticking a text message box (see Text messages);
- respond to your questions and requests;
- remember your preferences so the listings we send fit what you asked for;
- operate, maintain, secure and improve the Site, including preventing spam, fraud and abuse;
- keep records of your consent and opt-out choices so we can honor them; and
- comply with legal obligations and enforce our Terms & Conditions.
Text messages (SMS)
Our sign-up form includes two optional text message consent boxes. Both are unchecked by default, and you can sign up for email alerts without ticking either one. Consent to receive text messages is not a condition of purchasing any product or service.
- Service updates and account notifications. If you tick the first box, you agree to receive recurring automated text messages from US Home Assistance at the phone number you provide, such as listing alert notices and updates about your sign-up and preferences.
- Marketing communications and promotions. If you tick the second box, you agree to receive marketing text messages and promotions from US Home Assistance at the phone number you provide.
Message frequency varies. Message and data rates may apply. You can opt out at any time by replying STOP to any message, and get help by replying HELP. After you reply STOP, we’ll send one message confirming you’ve been unsubscribed and won’t send further texts unless you sign up again. Our full mobile messaging terms are in our SMS Terms.
Email messages
If you sign up, we’ll email you listing alerts, guides and related offers and promotions. Every marketing email includes an unsubscribe link, and we honor unsubscribe requests promptly. Even after you unsubscribe from marketing emails, we may send a message related to a request you made, such as a reply to your contact form message.
How we share information
We do not sell, rent or trade your personal information. We share it only in these limited situations:
- Service providers. We use trusted companies that help us operate the Site and deliver our messages, such as website hosting, email delivery, text message delivery, data storage and security providers. They may use your information only as needed to provide those services to us and are required to protect it.
- Legal requirements. We may disclose information if we believe in good faith that the law requires it, such as to respond to a valid subpoena, court order or other legal process, or when necessary to protect the rights, property or safety of our users, the public or US Home Assistance.
No mobile information will be shared with third parties/affiliates for marketing/promotional purposes. All the above categories exclude text messaging originator opt-in data and consent; this information will not be shared with any third parties.
Listing information and third-party sites
Our alerts and guides link to sellers, listing agents and official sources such as government and Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac listing sites. We don’t control those sites, and their own privacy policies apply when you visit them. If you contact a seller, agent or agency directly, the information you give them is handled under their policies, not ours.
Cookies and similar technologies
Cookies are small files stored by your browser. We use cookies and similar technologies that are needed for the Site to work and to remember choices such as form entries. We may also use basic analytics tools to understand how visitors use the Site, such as which pages are viewed most, so we can improve it. We do not use your information to build advertising profiles for other companies.
You can set your browser to refuse or delete cookies. If you do, some parts of the Site may not work as intended. Our Site does not currently respond to browser “Do Not Track” signals.
Your choices
- Emails: use the unsubscribe link in any email.
- Text messages: reply STOP to any message to opt out; reply HELP for help.
- Preferences: to change your area or listing types, sign up again with your new choices or ask us through the contact form.
- Cookies: adjust your browser settings.
Your privacy rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to ask us to tell you what personal information we hold about you, to give you a copy, to correct it, or to delete it. Some state laws also give you the right to opt out of the sale of personal information or its use for targeted advertising. We don’t sell personal information or use it for targeted advertising by others.
To make a request, use our contact form and choose “Privacy request.” We may need to confirm your identity before we act, such as by asking you to reply from the email address you signed up with. You may use an authorized agent where your state’s law allows it. We won’t treat you differently for exercising your privacy rights.
How long we keep information
We keep your sign-up information for as long as you remain subscribed and for a reasonable period afterwards, or until you ask us to delete it. We keep contact form messages for as long as needed to respond and keep a record of the request. We may keep records of consent and opt-out requests for longer, so that we can honor your choices and show that we did.
How we protect information
We use reasonable administrative, technical and physical safeguards designed to protect your information, including encrypted (HTTPS) connections to the Site and limited access to stored data. No website or transmission over the internet can be made completely secure, so we can’t promise absolute security.
Children’s privacy
The Site and our alerts are intended for adults 18 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you believe a child has given us personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.
Where we operate
US Home Assistance is operated in the United States, and the Site is intended for people in the United States. Information we collect is stored and processed in the United States.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we’ll change the “Last updated” date at the top of this page, and if the changes are significant we’ll post a notice on the Site. Please check back periodically.
